Amsterdam Living Lab New Years Resolution
Preliminary findings.
Thanks to all those who showed up and gave us their valuable time and insights into the current state of Living Labs in Amsterdam. This is the first of a two phase (if not more) discovery process. What we have achieved thus far will serve to inform an effective second step which will be a more inclusive gathering with the public.
This was not an academic exercise or a semantic argument, rather an empirical exploration into the current state of play of Living Labs in Amsterdam and its relationship to the City and its people so please bare with us and continue to help us as we explore further. It is not our goal to define the Amsterdam Living Lab, rather to understand the nature of what we do in the city, how and why. This exploration will lead to a more effective policy and plan for a more productive relationship with the city and inclusive future for Amsterdam Living Labs.
Not only here in Amsterdam, but also to serve as a model for other cities to also engage their citizens in meaningful ways that improve their lives. After all, this is why we do what we do and we know more, now than ever thanks to your contribution.
If we are going to build a bridge from the City to Citizen by leveraging the potential of Living Labs (or whatever you want to call them) we need to establish the points of entry as well as the tools and resources which are needed to build this bridge in such a way that it will last. The next step is for us to remove barriers and enable inclusive participation and we need your help to make this happen.
On Jan 25, 2019 CITIXL hosted an interactive session with Amsterdam Living Lab experts – 30 took the “quick scan” survey. After this event we made it possible for the public to take the same survey online, gathering a random sample from organic visitors. As of March 8, 2019 we have 20 responses to the public “quick scan” survey for a total of 50 completed surveys which gives us a good statistical reliability.
Below are the results which are not about coming to a universal definition of what an Amsterdam Living Lab is, rather gaining insight about the current perceptions and what Living Labs role with the public should be. This is a living document and as the discussion evolves the results may change. Keep posted about the next event and join the debate or take the survey now. Enjoy!
